Colors of Fall at PIke’s Nursery
People who are considering a move to the Lake Oconee ask about what events or activities they might find here in this out-of-the way community. This Fall we have been so busy with work and play that it is hard to find down time, so today I am reporting some of the seasonal events that have made this Fall busy at Lake Oconee.
Of course lake sports such as paddle-boarding and fishing continue. Golf tournaments abound in the still warm, but fresher air with breezes. Hunters are getting prepared as the deer and dove seasons are set to begin. Football gets the attention every weekend at the local colleges, and the Atlanta Falcons draw crowds to Atlanta to urge them on. If your team is playing an away game, there are plenty of “watch parties” in homes and restaurants in the Lake Area.
Below is a partial list of the events that Jim and I have attended or heard about in this busy real estate season.
In late September, I was a guest in the Cuscowilla Ladies Member-Guest Golf Tournament at their golf course in Putnam County

Cuscowilla
Participants were tested by slick, hard greens at the two days of play at that club. Golfers enjoyed many beautiful lake views, and the food and gifts provided by the club were wonderful.
October brings the annual Blessing of the Animals at local churches in the

Lake Oconee area. We took our dog Trixie to the service at our Episcopal Church of the Redeemer.
October is Pink Ribbon month to honor all the women who have had breast cancer, and other women’s cancers. Harbor Club’s annual Pink Ribbon Golf Tournament, a fund-raiser for the Lydia

Pink Ribbon Golf
project, was a great success! Women golfers from all over the Lake Area played competitive golf, enjoyed lunch, and participated in a raffle. The large amount of money raised was dedicated to the Lydia Project to find a cure for women’s cancer.
Last week many Lake Oconee residents enjoyed the outdoor concert by Banks and Shane, a well-loved duo from Atlanta. Groups of attendees decorated tables, and enjoyed good food in the moonlit

Banks and Shane Concert
evening at Harmony Crossing. The band played many oldies, and the people demonstrated their dance steps.
Yesterday, I joined some friends to visit the artist Dale Chihuly’s exhibit at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. Within 90 minutes of leaving the Lake Oconee area, we were within the beautiful Botanical Garden, enjoying a cool morning’s stroll through the

Chihuly Blown Glass
permanent exhibits, and taking in the brightly colored Chihuly creations displayed against the natural settings. We enjoyed lunch in a terrific cafe in the Gardens, and were on our way home by early afternoon.
Tomorrow night there is another concert, Moonlight and Motown, playing for a fundraiser for the Pete Nance Boys and Girls Club in Greensboro. This Motown

Sensational Sounds of Motown
band is from Athens, Georgia,
and is an excellent commemorative show of the real Motown (which many of us experienced first hand years ago!).
Greene County Chamber is sponsoring Taste-n-Jam next week, food tasting from local restaurants and entertainment by singer Jake Bartley.
Before October is over, the Briar Patch Arts and Crafts Festival will take place

Brer Rabbit Statue
in Eatonton on the courthouse lawn. This event celebrates the Uncle Remus stories and their historic ties to the area. Joel Chandler Harris, author of the Uncle Remus , got his inspiration for the Briar Patch tales during his childhood here at Turnwold Plantation.
