Since its creation as a man-made lake in 1972, the Lake Oconee area has given rise to many wonderful communities that provide wonderful primary homes, vacation homes, or retirement homes. In a series of blogs I plan to describe each neighborhood, and its highlights that make buyers choose a particular one in which to reside.
First, I will describe the golf community of Harbor Club (my home).
The first glimpse of Harbor Club is its attractive entrance on Lake Oconee Parkway as one goes south after exiting interstate I-20. A left turn through the stacked stone pilasters leads to the security gate of Harbor Club. This traditional community is well established and the majority of the residents live here year round keeping this Georgia lake community closely connected.
Community amenities include an award winning golf course, clubhouse and restaurant, swimming pool, tennis courts and marina. Plans are made to build a new community pavilion overlooking Lake Oconee offering kayaks, canoes and paddleboards converting the existing marina into dry dock storage. The community’s social calendar is filled with family events and seasonal activities.
Golf and lake amenities best define Harbor Club on Lake Oconee along with affordable homes. The 15,000 square foot clubhouse with fitness center, golf shop and restaurant, swim and tennis center and access to 19,000 acres of freshwater lake.
The 15,000 square foot clubhouse at Harbor Club, designed by award-winning Southern Living architect Stephen Fuller, is a centerpiece to the community and a regular spot for residents looking to unwind from a hard day of work or a long day on the links. The facility houses a fitness center, fully-stocked golf shop, card and banquet rooms and a restaurant and bar that overlooks the croquet lawn, golf practice facility and the 18th green of the golf course.
Harbor Club’s 18-hole Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish design golf course is the most significant amenity in this community offers a challenge to every golfer. A personal view of the Harbor Club golf course was described by Jim a few years ago.
Home styles range from low maintenance townhomes to luxury estate lakefront homes. Believe it or not, townhomes can be found in the low $100k’s.
