Lake Oconee is a great place to retire!. When people begin to compare retirement locations they consider many facets of the lifestyle including climate, medical services, recreation, cost of living, and proximity of friends and relatives.
After researching general information about what constitutes a satisfactory retirement location, I have created my own list of Reasons to choose Lake Oconee as your retirement home.
Lake Oconee has the proverbial four seasons that make life more interesting. Spring arrives in March, Fall presents a show of colorful leaves, Summer can be hot, and it is rare to have any snow in Winter. Outdoor activities are feasible for the majority of the year.
Today’s seniors want to continue the active life they had been living. Here is a partial list of Lake Oconee sports:
- Golf (7 local courses)
- Horseback riding
- Off-road trail riding
If you enjoy spectator sports, college football and professional baseball, basketball, and football are a little more than an hour away in Atlanta. In the spring the community is hopping with patrons who attend the Masters Golf Tournament, only an hour away. There are also unlimited opportunities for hobbies such as painting, bridge, and book clubs.

Often our buyers are in their middle years looking for future retirement quarters, as well as a good investment. Their plan is to buy a home now, use it for vacations and as a rental property, build equity in the home, then use it as a primary home for retirement. The use of VRBO and AirBnB, as well as local property management companies make it possible to manage rentals from one’s computer.
